Butternut squash, risotto and roasted Mediterranean vegetables were served up for lunch on Tuesday. But this was not gourmet dining out, this was school dinners at Ickworth Park Primary School.
Youngsters have been cultivating their 300 sqm allotment at Ickworth Park since 2009 and provide tasty fruit and vegetables for the school dining hall and for parents to purchase.
On Sunday produce from their gardening endeavours won pride of place at the Harvest Festival service held at Ickworth Church.
Taken by the Rev Chistopher Griffiths the school choir sang harvest hymns and two children gave readings. Produce was then sold to the congregation to raise money for the gardening project which, as well as providing food for school, also supplies the Ickworth Hotel during the summer.
Jayne Cook, allotment project leader, said that in the last year 43 different vegetables and fruits have been grown.
