The Met Office has issued a warning for isolated but torrential thunderstorms across the east this afternoon.

Its yellow ‘be aware’ warning says the storms could come with ‘very heavy rain, hail and gusty winds’.

It adds: “The public should be aware of the risk of very localised surface water flooding, particularly if the thunderstorms affect urban areas.”

There are further warnings for Tuesday when some parts of the country may have longer periods of rain. The Met Office says that though the storms will fade in the west on Wednesday, they may linger in the east of England.

However, when the sun comes out this week, temperatures will climb into the high 20s and low 30s.
