Woman in court in relation to murder of Bury St Edmunds jeweller

A WOMAN has appeared in court in relation to the murder of Bury St Edmunds jeweller Peter Avis.

Aleksandra Karpiuk who is 27 and from Lake Avenue in Bury, is charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.

She appeared before Bury magistrates on Wednesday (9) when the case was committed to Ipswich Crown Court for a hearing on Friday (18).

The body of 66-year-old Mr Avis was found in his flat above Collis and Son jewellers in Abbeygate Street on January 13.

A post mortem examination found that he had died from stab wounds.

Police arrested several people and but have now revealed that two of them have had their bail cancelled and will face no further action.

They are a 26 year old man from Bury who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and an 18-year-old man from Bury arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Karpiuk was the fourth person to be charged in relation to the murder.

Pawel Pacian, a 34-year-old man of Lake Avenue in Bury and Pawel Borowiecki, a 30-year-old man, of Roslyn Road in London, are both charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.

Kamil Kita, a 20-year-old man, of no fixed abode is charged with murdering Mr Avis.

A 19-year-old woman, a 39-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, all from London and all arrested on assisting an offender are on bail to return on 13 June.

Pytor Melaniuk, a 28-year-old man Suffolk Police wanted to question in connection with the murder was detained in Poland on February 16 in connection with an unrelated matter.

Suffolk Police are liaising with the Polish authorities and the Crown Prosecution Service to try to extradite him back to England.
