At a disco on Saturday evening Amber Harvey, 10, was selected as carnival princess with Georgia Jolland, 6, and Maya Hattem, 7, as attendants. The three will lead the Wickhambrook Carnival procession on July 13.

Earlier that day the village celebrated the re-opening of a park on Cemetery Road which has been updated following a community effort.

The £73,000 playground, which features a range of equipment has been created following three years of fund-raising by people living in the village.

Roger Medley, clerk of Wickhambrook Parish Council, said: “The project has caused enormous excitement amongst the local youngsters who are counting the hours until its Grand Opening. The enthusiasm maintained by fund-raisers in these difficult times has been an inspiration to us all. We have a wonderful community asset which will give pleasure to generations of children for many years to come.”

Funding for the project was given by organisations including Suffolk Housing, Suffolk County Council, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Wickhambrook Parish Council as well as fund-raising by local people.
