Wheelie title is retained

A Lakenheath man has retained his World's Fastest Wheelie title by riding his motorbike on one wheel at 171.4mph on Sunday.

Kenny Bye took the crown at Elvington Airfield, near York, by doing a continuous wheelie for 1km on his Suzuki GSXR1000K7.

The self-employed builder beat a field of more than 30 riders, which brought entrants from countries including Sweden and France.

"It was a surprise to win this time," said Kenny, who won the event last year with a speed of 166.9mph.

"It is a very daunting event, as it is a long way to go at that speed. But the adrenaline rush you get from completing the kilometre is amazing."

The former Methwold High School student is now closing in on the world record, which is 172.9mph and was set by Terry Calcott in 2006.

- Record breaking side hops and backflips will be performed in the arc tomorrow.

Former World Champion mountain bike star Martyn Ashton and dirt jump star Blake Sampson will be showing off their skills in Charter Square, Bury St Edmunds, as part of the Animal Relentless Mountain Bike tour.
