The chaplaincy team at West Suffolk Hospital is appealing to anyone with a few hours to spare to consider signing up as a volunteer.
The department is holding an open morning on Monday 31 March for people who may be interested in joining its team of 60 volunteers, who work across the hospital to provide spiritual support and companionship to patients.
People of all ages and from all backgrounds are welcome to apply for the role, which will see them work alongside the chaplaincy team to show care and compassion to patients by providing a listening ear and offering reassurance and help.
In particular, the team is looking for people who can spare an hour or two on Fridays or during weekends.
Ian Howells, lead chaplain at the hospital, said: “Our chaplaincy volunteers enhance the quality of healthcare the hospital provides by giving quality time to patients under the direction and guidance of the chaplains. The role is very rewarding, and we would encourage anyone interested in finding out more to get in touch.”
The open morning will take place in the hospital chapel between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer is welcome to attend, or they can contact the department on 01284 713486 for more information.
