A 49-year-old man from Weeting has begun an 18 year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual offences against children and an adult.
Gary Steed, of Peppers Close, denied a string of offences but was found guilty by a jury at Norwich Crown Court last Friday following a four week trial.
Taking place in Thetford over a period of 23 years, Steed’s offending began with a sexual offence against a young girl in the 1980s. The abuse lasted for several years before stopping.
But in 2006, Steed began to offend again, entering into an inappropriate sexual relationship with a young adult.
The court also heard how he sent text messages to a female child with the intention of grooming her for further sexual abuse.
He also sexually touched another young girl on several occasions.
He must now serve a minimum of 13 years before being considered for release, with an overall sentence of 18 years.
Detective Constable Tina King, from Norfolk Poice, said: “This has been a long and complex case which has involved extensive enquiries.
“Steed is a dangerous individual who preyed on young girls in the Thetford area for many years.
“I would like to commend the victims for their bravery in coming forward and reporting the abuse they have suffered, and I hope that the sentence gives them some comfort that he will be locked up for many years to come and closure to be able to move forward with their lives.”
