KNIGHT Rider hit the streets of Bury St Edmunds last Thursday when two pub landlords introduced their theme for the Potty to Prague wacky rally.

Jason Mealey’s and Geoff Page’s £350 black Ford Cougar was not nearly as indestructible as KITT, the high-tech artificially-intelligent vehicle from the well-known television series, breaking down twice before the duo left Bury.

The Nutshell landlords donned David Hasselhoff-style wigs and dark leather jackets to get into the Michael Knight’s character and set off for the starting point in Lille, France, with the Knight Rider theme tune to keep them company on a journey that would take them from the Alps to the Dolomites, ending in Prague on Monday.

“It’s going to be fun, it’s an adventure and one of those lifetime experiences,” said Mr Page, 41.

The pair hoped their involvement in the rally would raise at least £400 for the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG), a charity that Mr Mealey raised £1,100 for by completing the Blenheim Triathlon and that Nutshell regulars have topped up by £480.

CCLG took on special importance for Mr Mealey, 42, after his friend’s daughter died of cancer.
