Village chosen to represent district

RESIDENTS in Cockfield are celebrating after it was named Babergh’s Village of the Year.

The village triumphed in Babergh District Council’s round of the county wide Village of the Year contest, which is organised by the Suffolk Association of Local Councils.

It now joins yet to be revealed finalists from the other districts in the county round.

The overall winner of the competition receives £1,000, a plaque and certificate.

Babergh’s judging panel was made up of four district councillors, who marked villages on their community spirit, appearance, parish council and special activities held in the village.

They felt Cockfield was a ‘prime example of a community minded village that is well looked after and takes pride in itself’.

It receives the Cosford Trophy, framed certificate and £500 towards a community project.
