‘VIKING’ soldier killed in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that a soldier from the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment has been killed in Afghanistan.

It said the soldier was part of an operation to disrupt insurgent activity in the Nad ‘Ali district of Helmand province when he was killed yesterday (15).

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand Major Ian Lawrence said: “It is with deep sorrow that I must confirm that a soldier from 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment has been killed by enemy action whilst deployed on operations in the Nad ‘Ali district of Helmand province.

“The thoughts of all within Task Force Helmand are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

The soldier’s family has been informed.

He has not been named at this stage.

The regimental headquarters are in Bury St Edmunds.
