The Battle of Britain was commemorated by veterans, troops from RAF Honington and cadets on Angel Hill yesterday morning (15).

Station Commander RAF Honington Group Captain Scott Miller said: “This is September 15 on which we commemorate the Battle of Britain. Although the battle had been raging for a couple of months at this point, this was the crescendo.

“The stakes were never higher for this country and it was their sacrifice and courage that allowed us to not only win the battle but subsequently to set the conditions to liberate Europe and win the war.

“It’s important for us for our service to mark the anniversary but also to join the local community who support us.”

A short service led by the Royal British Legion held at the war memorial begun proceedings.

Military groups were followed by a civic procession led by the Mayor of St Edmundsbury Cllr Terry Buckle in a parade to St Mary’s Church, where a service was held.
