Vandals have caused hundreds of pounds of damage to an entrance gate at Bury St Edmunds Cemetery.
Police say the secure West Road entrance gate was damaged between 8pm on Thursday and 8am today.
A spokesman said it appeared someone had kicked the gate causing the mechanism to break and that repairing it would cost an estimated £500.
A spokesman for St Edmundsbury Borough Council, which runs the cemetery, said notices would be put up to inform members of the public about the vandalism and to ask anyone with information to call police.
“This type of damage has occurred previously in Haverhill Cemetery and the repair cost in excess of £500,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Police on 101 quoting crime reference 77 4/1/16.
