Tributes have been paid to respected former Hopton GP Dr Abdel Hassan who has died aged 102.

The great-grandfather, who was a resident at Stowlangtoft Hall Nursing Home, ran his surgery in Hopton from 1967 to 1984.

Shortly before his death, staff at the home treated him to a trip to RAF Mildenhall.

Joanne Thompson, a manager at the care home, said: “Dr Hassan touched the hearts of everyone here.”

Anna Watkins, part of the team who nursed him through his last hours, said: “He was such a character.
“A big part of the Hall has been lost.”

Egyptian-born Dr Hassan celebrated his birthday twice a year at the home due to a discrepancy between when he was born and the date his birth was registered.
