Man hospitalised after HGV crash

A driver is in hospital with serious injuries after his car was involved in an accident with a lorry last night.

The man, in his 50s, who was trapped in his car had to be cut free by fire crews after the accident in Stowmarket.

Emergency services were called to the incident at Stowmarket Business Park, in Needham Road, shortly after 7pm.

Four fire engines attended and had to cut the roof off of the car, a grey Subaru, to release the injured driver.

The Magpas Helimedix team were also called to the scene to assist in treating the man, who was taken to Addenbrooke’s hospital, with serious leg injuries.

His injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening, but today, the East of England Ambulance Service described his condition as serious.

The road was closed for more than four hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
