NEEDHAM Market is set to welcome the Paralympic flame in spectacular style today at one of only 34 flame celebrations around the country.
The exciting line-up of activities and entertainment at Needham Lake begins at 2pm with a range of sporting and creative events for the whole family.
The sports zone is showcasing a variety of sports including wheelchair basketball, athletics, cycling, sitting volleyball, table tennis and archery.
Creative workshops all around the lake offer a chance to learn about filmmaking, illustration, junk jewellery, lantern making and multi sensory sculpture.
At 3.30pm and 6pm The City of London Sinfonia are playing special sports themed concerts through iconic film music from Chariots of Fire, Fisher Tull’s Olympic Fanfare and Aesops fable the Tortoise and the Hare.
A junk funk drummer is also hosting workshops in wheelie bin drumming.
Art installations, created by flame ambassador Amy Nettleton, have been set up all around the lake.
The main event, the Magical Twilight Lantern Procession, will take place at 7.10pm joined by the Rwandan Paralympic team.
The procession will travel around the lake, along Crown Street, onto the High Street then onto Coddenham Road before returning to the lake for the Spectacular Flame Finale.
The finale, created by performance company Avanti, with feature fire sculptures, water effects and theatrical lighting mixed with live and recorded music.
