A NEW funeral service has been opened in Bury St Edmunds.

Bury and District Funeral Services, in King’s Road, was opened on November 23 by Ian Houlder, mayor of St Edmundsbury and Philip Blatchly, president of the National Association of Funeral Directors.

Cllr Bob Cockle, chairman of Bury Town Council, named the chapel of rest, The Lark Chapel and the Rev Dr John Parr carried out the dedication and blessing.

The Rev Robert Green, the Rev Rob Hufton and Major Ralph Chambers also read prayers in the chapel to give different denominations the chance to put their mark on the chapel.

Melanie Lowe, funeral service arranger at Bury and District Funeral Services, said: “It was a really nice service.”
