THE hunt is on for a community hero to spark Thetford’s Jubilee celebrations.
One of more than 4,000 official beacons from across the country will be lit on Castle Hill on June 4.
Thetford Town Council is looking for residents to nominate someone they think deserves to light the beacon.
A specially-commissioned fire basket to house the beacon has been paid for by Ridgeons and Thetford Fire Station will be co-ordinating the lighting arrangements.
To be involved, email the name and reason for nomination to the Diamond Jubilee Team using firstname.lastname@example.org or collect an application from the town council offices at King’s House. The deadline is 9am on May 29.
A number of other events are planned for the day.
A civic parade from King’s House to St Cuthbert’s Church will kick off the festivities.
Representatives from twin towns in Poland, France, Germany and the Netherlands will be in attendance.
A midday street party is also planned and a free concert on Melford Common will round off the day.
