Visitors will be able to peak behind the curtain of the Theatre Royal with the return of a unique backstage tour next month.
Theatre-goers of all ages will be able to savour 200 years of the venue’s history, try on costumes, tread the boards and discover the stars who have been part of the playhouse’s past.
The experience - dubbed ‘Backstage Past’ - runs from June 5 to August 17 and is free to National Trust members.
The tours were a huge success when they debuted last year allowing full access backstage and onstage.
More than 3,000 people explored the building by themselves and joined one of two daily guided tours.
Chief executive Simon Daykin said: “We were overwhelmed with the success of Backstage Past in its first season, and this summer we hope to welcome even more visitors to explore our beautiful theatre and discover our story - and maybe even stay for a slice of delicious locally-baked cake.”
During a special two weeks from August 7 to 17, a cast of 12 local actors will join the exhibition and bring to life some of the colourful characters from the theatre’s past.
