A Michelin-starred chef has headed back to school to inspire students.
Simon Christey-French, head chef at the Pearl Restaurant, London and a former student of Stowmarket Middle School, returned to his old school to open their newly refurbished dining room.
During his visit, the chef ran a ‘master chef master class’ for some of the students.
During the class, students experimented with different food combinations and learnt how different tastes complement each other before making canapés to serve to guests at the opening of the refurbished dining room.
Food teacher Denise Mazurkewicz said: “It was such a fantastic opportunity for our students to see Simon in action.
“I taught him when he was here and it was inspiring to see the heights he has reached in his profession.”
Following a £25.000 refurbish ment, the school’s dining room now has cafe style chairs, round tables, breakfast bars and sofas.
A large screen, projector and speakers have also been installed.
Assistant headteacher Claire Ferguson said: “The room has been totally transformed and is proving extremely popular.”
