Tickets are now on sale for our glitzy black tie Bury Free Press awards night.

It is almost time to get glammed up, and celebrate the very best in local business with us and our host TV newsman Nicholas Owen at The Apex on September 20.

Places are limited to get your tickets before they are all snapped up.

They cost £55 each. There will be a drinks reception from 7pm and dinner at 8pm ,followed by the awards presentation.

You can either pop in and buy them from our frontdesk at the Bury Free Press offices in Kings Road, or call 01284 768911.

In the meantime you have a less than a week left to nominate your favourite businesses or staff member for the recognition they deserve.

Our deadline for entries is July 31 so you really need to get cracking to make sure the top firms, shops and offices and people in our area, do not miss out.

“We are particularly keen to see more nominations for our business person of the year, apprentice/ trainee award, and the green/ environmental award,” said Anglia Newspapers events manager Mark Stanford.

And here is a brief recap of the various categories we have.

Once again our readers will have their say in a text vote to decide the winner of the Bury Free Press sponsored independent retailer of the year award.

We will reveal the nominations for at award on August 9 and then ask our readers to text vote their favourite by midnight on August 16.

The award for business person of the year, and business of the year are being co-sponsored by Sicon and the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

We will also be recognising the best apprentice or trainee of the year, in a category sponsored by WS Training.

The contribution a company or individual makes to the community, will be highlighted in an award sponsored by New Media Group.

Mark Cordell, chief executive of Bid4Bury, sponsors of the customer care award, wants ‘Even more customers nominating the staff member who they believe provides the best customer service in town’.

Denny Bros meanwhile are sponsoring our best marketing award.

The best start up business will receive an award sponsored by Suffolk enterprise agency MENTA, while there is a green/ environmental award for a firm which can demostrate a strong and consistent approach to renewable energy in business.

Finally there is the Lifetime Achievement for Services to Business in West Suffolk award which is being jointly sponsored by St Edmundsbury Borough and Forest Heath District councils.
