Imagined Village, The Apex May 24

This band which tops the World Music charts certainly proved itself a number one winner for its Bury St Edmunds audience.

Their fiery blend of traditional folk combined with great strong rythmns and beautifully blended sitar created an amazing sound.

Martin and Eliza Carthy along with Simon Innocent are the founding fathers of a project that continues to recreate itself.

The 10 musicians provided sound ranging from haunting laments, fiesty jigs to foot stomping energy.

The fiddles and voices of Eliza Carthy and Jackie Oates combined beautifully with Sheema Mukherjee on Sitar while Johnny Kalsi pushed the tempo further with magical solos on the Dhol drum.

The audience was also treated to the 12 minute Bending the Dark written for the Cultural Olympiad by Mukherjee.

The evening was one of wide cultural span, social commentary and fantastic performance. LA
