Below stairs and backstage past got together to mark the two living history productions which are being put on at the Theatre Royal and Ickworth House.

Characters from the Theatre Royal’s Backstage Past: Live Encounters met the servants of the 1930s who would have worked below stairs at Ickworth House.

The two groups are providing living history experiences at the theatre and Ickworth and their encounter spanned two centuries of local history.

Backstage Past features 13 community actors and is a behind the scenes actor led tour where visitors meet characters from the theatre’s past and are taken through 200 years of vibrant theatrical life during an hour long experience. Performances run three times a day Wednesday to Saturday from August 7 to 17.

Meanwhile Ickworth Lives follows the major restoration project of the basement servants’ quarters at Ickworth Rotunda featuring the period between 1910 and 1939, using memories and information from former servants and estate workers.

Tickets for both events are available from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 01284 769505 and Ickworth 01284 735270.
