THE people of Stansfield turned out on Saturday for a little fun and celebration to mark the ‘re-opening’ of the main road through the village.
The only trouble is that the road was never really totally closed.
That has been the argument from the proprietors of the Compasses Inn which who are angry that roadworks signs gave the impression that it was not possible to access their pub.
But as their dispute and claim for compensation for lost trade continues with Suffolk County Council, Ron and Jaqui van Straalen decided to host a celebration to mark the end of roadworks to fill in potholes.
Villagers raised a glass and cheered as a symbolic ribbon cutting ceremony by Mr van Straalen took place to ‘open’ the road outside the pub, where two bands entertained.
