Suffolk Wildlife Trust volunteers from Lackford Lakes teamed up with Pakenham residents to help swifts by putting up seven-nest tower at Mickle Mere nature reserve. The plan was masterminded by villagers

Sandy Jackson and Paul Haines who also raised the £400 to pay for it, with Bibby Distribution doubling what was collected locally.

Swifts’ numbers are declining, partly because of fewer nest sites in buildings, so the trust has been encouraging people to put up nest boxes .
