A successful pick and mix event hire business run by a couple from Red Lodge has revealed several new plans to expand.

Nuts about Sweets was started by husband and wife Abbey and David Farrant two years ago .

The business operates sweet carts filled with pick and mix containers, which are then hired for weddings, corporate and other events.

“Everyone loves pick and mix,” said Abbey.

Now they have launched a gourmet popcorn cart after teaming up with a Leicester firm who make unconventional but seasonal flavours including cheese on toast and Wimbledon favourite Strawberries and Cream.

“My favourite is the goats cheese and black pepper – I didn’t think popcorn could taste that good,” Abbey said

The couple are also planning to launch a smaller pick and mix cart later this year, which will then be available to hire for children’s parties.

Nuts About Sweets was one of the Bury Free Press’ Local Business Accelerators (LBA) winners last year for which they won free business mentoring and advertising.

On Saturday they traded on the Bury St Edmunds market for a day as part of a prize with MENTA.

“The market was a great success and the public loved the carts,” said Abbey.

The carts are handmade by David who is a carpenter. Abbey is responsible for marketing.

They come flatpack, are designed to fit in the back of a car, and take about 20 minutes to assemble.

The Theatre Royal in Bury hired two carts for panto season.
