A Mildenhall surgery is one of only seven GP practices in the UK to receive an award recognising the quality of its end of life care.
Dr Monica Bell and practice manager, Maggie Lake, from Market Cross Surgery were presented with the Gold Standards Framework Quality Hallmark Award at the Gold Standards Framework Annual Conference.
The Gold Standard Framework (GSF) was introduced in 2000 to help doctors identify people nearing end of life and help meet their care needs.
Those practices recognised have implemented further changes leading to substantial improvements.
Mrs Lake said: “GSF has enabled us as a practice to work in partnership with the primary health care team, to provide more consistent care in the last phase of life.
“Being recognised earlier and included on the palliative care register helps these patients receive better coordinated care in line with their wishes, meaning more people receiving the right care, in the right place at the right time.
“The benefits also include the patient being assessed and consulted on their preferences, quicker response from practice teams and out of hours services and better communication with hospitals and care homes.”
