Suffolk Housing will be relocating to a new £2 million headquarters after planners gave the green light to a bigger, brighter building.
St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s development control committee approved proposals for the 866sqm two-storey office off Skyliner Way at its meeting on November 6.
Construction work is due to begin later this year with the building completed by autumn 2015.
The new office will be twice the size of Suffolk Housing’s current base in St Botolph’s Lane, giving the housing assiciation room to expand its workforce by around 25 per cent with the recruitment of 14 new members of staff.
Suffolk Housing chief executive Ian Winslet said: “We are pleased that this exciting scheme to create a new HQ for Suffolk Housing has been approved.
“The proposals were carefully drawn up to fit with the council’s policies and complement existing development in Skyliner Way.”
The new building will include showers and bike racks to encourage employees to cycle or walk to work, and Mr Winslet saidthe company also plans to carry out conservation projects in the neighbouring woodland.
“The project continues our strong tradition of supporting our community by investing in the economy and providing new jobs for local people,” he said.
