A TROUPE of school pupils have been strictly on the dancefloor this week as part of an Olympics-themed dance project.
Students from Mildenhall College of Technology (MCT), Riverside Middle School and College Heath Middle School in Mildenhall put a gold-medal spin on their moves as part of a Dance East project. The Ipswich-based company provide education and training in dance for people of all ages.
The project aims to get young people hooked on dancing by giving them experience of a production.
With London 2012 edging ever closer, pupils chose an Olympic theme, with performances taking place this week.
Family and friends had the chance to see the dancers in action at MCT on Wednesday.
Having chosen their project, pupils were visited by dancers and choreographers led sessions at all three schools between January and March, working with students of all abilities.
As part of the project, students had the chance to attend workshops, including a visit new dance studios at Jerwood House in Ipswich.
Sian Wilson, MCT’s PE and Dance teacher, said the project had helped students to build confidence and better their understanding of dance.
“It has been a great experience, the students learn a lot about more contemporary styles of dance and the choreography process and they thoroughly enjoyed the workshops,” she said.
