The new building boasts 69 teaching areas, sports hall, science and IT facilities as well as drama and dance studios.

Meanwhile, Adrian Ball has been appointed executive principal of the academy by its new sponsor The Inspiration Trust to work alongside principal Cathy Spillane.

He said: “In our first year we will dramatically improve the number of students achieving five A* to C GCSEs including English and maths. I want to see many more Thetford children going on to university.

“With our brilliant new build, the academy has some of the best facilities in Norfolk. My aim is for our education to be among the best in the county.”

The academy previously operated across a split site.
