SCHOOLCHILDREN from Lakenheath Primary School gardening club spent last Friday planting a jubilee elm.

The tree was planted in a ceremony attended by students and parish councillors.

Headteacher Emma Vincent said: “The children who went to the gardening club were involved in the planting.

“They got stuck in and helped to stamp the soil down and keep it watered.”

The tree was donated to the school by the parish council to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The school has a number of events planned to celebrate the big day, including a jubilee day on June 1 when students will dress up as kings and queens, have a special picnic and learn songs from the time of the coronation.
