STUDENTS at Stowmarket Middle School were spellbound by a visit from two Olympic hopefuls.

Michael Peart, who hopes to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games, and Zoe Newson, who is waiting to hear if she will compete as a powerlifter in the Paralympic Games, took time off from their training schedules to speak to students.

The pair told students how they got into their chosen sports, about their tough training regimes and their hopes for London 2012.

Michael was a student of Stowmarket Middle School between 1986 and 1990 and had his first taste of archery in a muddy field during a school trip to the Lake District.

Assistant headteacher Mervyn Evans said: “It was brilliant. The kids listened spellbound to what they had to say and sat in silence to watch Michael shoot some arrows into a target with his £2,000 bow.

“We will be taking Michael and Zoe on as our Olympians and closely following their progress at the games.”
