Renowned storyteller Patrick Ryan visited school’s in the Bury Academy Trust after becoming the all-through chain’s Patron of Reading.
He taught County Upper sixth formers how to use storytelling and paired reading schemes to develop younger pupils’ literacy.
The sixth formers will now volunteer across the schools, which include Barrow Primary as well as Westley and Horringer Court Middles, on a weekly basis to showcase their new found skills.
Mr Ryan, who is an expert in teaching literacy, also ran storytelling sessions with 120 pupils in Key Stages 1 to 3 which included fairy tales and Shakespeare.
Vicky Neale, head at County Upper, said: “All the pupils were spellbound and the workshops were extremely well received.
“The day was an excellent start to the scheme which is part of the Trust’s 4-19 English curriculum and, in particular, the development of literacy skills so that all children make strong progress.”
