Anyone relying on public transport faces a stay at home Christmas and New Year bank holiday.

None of the bus companies in the Bury St Edmunds and Thetford area will be running services on Christmas or Boxing day, though Galloway will run its number 87 between Stowmarket and Ipswich on Boxing Day.

In addition, Stephenson’s will not have services on December 30, It will however run on Christmas Eve and its Tesco Bury service will run on the 24th and the 31st.

Most bus companies are not running on January 1 but Mulley’s are the exception because they plan a Sunday service on New Year’s Day.

Services sponsored by Suffolk County Council will not run on December 25 and 26 or January 1.

The good news from Greater Anglia railway is that most of its maintenance work will be suspended over the Christmas and New Year period.

It plans to run a normal weekday service on the 24th but no service on the 25th or 26th, except for a revised Stansted Express timetable.

It will also run a revised service across its region on January 1.
