COUNTY councillors have rubber stamped funding to extend fire stations in Elmswell and Ixworth to accommodate police staff.
The project, which also includes a station in Debenham, will allow Suffolk’s Fire Service and Police to share base facilities in a bid to cut costs.
The Fire Service will pay £215,000 for the construction work while Suffolk Police will fork out £599,000.
Cllr Colin Spence, Suffolk County Council’s portfolio holder for public protection said: “In these austere times it is more important than ever to work together with our partners to share resources and facilities. This move offers real value for money and, more importantly, an excellent service to each community.”
