TRIBUTES have been paid to a council chief executive ‘much liked by all’.
Geoff Rivers, received a standing ovation in recognition of his work at St Edmundsbury Borough Council during an event attended by staff, councillors and public figures.
Mr Rivers has stepped down after four years in charge.
During this time he has overseen many changes, including the opening of The Apex in Bury St Edmunds, the drawing up of Vision 2013 and the move to shared services – and a shared chief officer – with Forest Heath District Council.
John Griffiths, leader of the council, said: “He has made the council even more excellent than it was when I found it and that is a huge achievement – particularly given the very challenging events that have happened during his term as our chief executive.
“It has been a huge pleasure and privilege personally and professionally to work with Geoff.”
