St Nicholas Hospice Care is making the final preparations to its new Retail Centre, in Bury St Edmunds, ahead of a grand opening event on Saturday.

The new store, on the Bartons Retail Park, in Barton Road, features 5,000 sqft of selling space – a significant increase on its old centre in Boldero Road, Bury.

The Mayor of St Edmundsbury, Terry Buckle, will officially open the shop to members of the public at 9am on Saturday.

On opening day, shoppers will be able to enjoy canapés and punch until 11am, while the Hospice’s van will be available to deliver any furniture purchases the same day.

Ian Daniels, head of retail, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our new Retail Centre. We hope customers will be as impressed with our new premises as we are.

“Not only is the new shop significantly bigger than our old warehouse, but we will be able to display our range of high quality pre-loved furniture, household items, bric-a-brac and fashion far more effectively.”

The store’s modern interior and exterior feature eye-catching photographs of Hospice staff members modelling donated fashions.

“We hope this new shop will be more accessible to members of the public,” said Ian. “It is situated within a retail area, there is plenty of car parking available and we have had a lift installed to ensure everyone can access all areas of the shop.”

He added: “The funds raised through Hospice shops generate vital income which helps us to care for people facing life-shortening conditions, and their loved ones.”

From next week, the Retail Centre will be open from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am-4pm on Saturdays.

Textile donations can be made in a pink bin outside the shop 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

Donations of furniture, bric-a-brac and household items can continue to be made at the Hospice’s Boldero Road warehouse until the beginning of December, after which a new donations centre will be opened at Oaklands Park, Rougham Hill.

The new Retail Centre is in need of more volunteers and the Hospice is also appealing for people to help process donations, particularly on Saturdays. For more information, contact its Volunteer Centre on 01284 766418.
