MID Suffolk has scooped an award for sporting success and spirit at a county youth competition.
Young people from the district competed in eight sports last month as part of the 2011 Redrow Homes Suffolk Youth Games.
The Mid Suffolk team, made up of 90 youngsters aged between nine and 15, were awarded the fair play trophy for embracing the spirit of the event.
The competition also saw the boys hockey team winning gold with bronze going to the tag rugby team and squash team.
Five basketball players were also invited to join the Ipswich Basketball Academy’s gifted and talented programme.
The event also saw 160 children and teenagers taking part in coaching and training at local clubs in the lead up to the competition.
Carol Clarke, sports development officer at Mid Suffolk District Council, said: “The Youth Games and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games have the power to inspire young people to grow as individuals and achieve their potential through sporting endeavour.”
