ON a clear day you could see for miles and miles and miles especially if you had climbed the 142 stairs up to the top of Mildenhall’s church tower.

St Mary’s Church staged a two day tower opening event and visitors enjoyed some spectacular views from the top.

Visitors could see as far as Ely Cathedral, rthe sugar beet factory in Bury and the wind turbines our at Swaffham.

Parishoners provided tasty refreshments and manned a Traidcraft staff and people had the chance to ring bells on the ground in a mini ring set up by the church’s bell ringing team.

Priest in Charge Sue Leathley said that while numbers were down due to the weather they were grateful for those who had come along.

The event has raised £619 for the church.
