Three arts and sports bodies in Bury St Edmunds are to receive £151,485 in council funding - with some slight cuts on last year due to budget pressures and the need for efficiencies.

The Theatre Royal will receive the biggest of the grants from St Edmundsbury Borough Council of £71,750, which is a reduction of five per cent on 2013/14.

A report to the authority’s grant working party, which meets on Wednesday, said a review will be carried out this year with other funders to decide future support for the theatre in the medium term.

The recently redeveloped Victory Sports Ground remains at £45,250 with a new funding agreement next year based on ‘sustainable decreases’ annually.

Smith’s Row Gallery will also receive £34,485 - a five per cent reduction - with a review to determine future funding in the medium term.

The report noted that ‘while previous amounts remain available to award, officers have been in discussion with each of the organisations about the budgetary pressures faced by the council and the need to review working practices to achieve efficiencies’.
