Seven to get head shaved for cancer charity

Seven charitable people from in and around Bury St Edmunds will be taking part in a head-shave tomorrow.

The three women and four men, six of whom work in West Suffolk Hospital’s catering department, hope to raise a minimum £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The fund-raiser will start at 1pm in the foyer at Asda, in Western Way, Bury, with trainee hairdresser Lucy Wilding making the cut.

Organiser Karen Bird, who will be among those getting shaved, said: “I wanted to do it for personal reasons. We’re all affected by cancer through family and friends and want to raise as much money as possible to help find a cure.”

She added: “It’s such a good charity and losing my hair for not long at all is nothing compared to what people who have cancer go through. It’s a tiny sacrifice from us to help find a cure for the future.”

Sarah Gribble, also getting shaved, said: “I’m getting a little nervous now but it’s all for a good cause.”

Also taking part are Sarah Wilson, John Spizick, Luke Nobbs, Aaron Archer and Andrew Cross.

There will be donation buckets at Asda for anyone wanting to contribute and participants are encouraging people to go along and offer their support.
