Ten victims of abuse by Stowmarket Schools Concert Band founder Derek Cable have won a £210,000 settlement from his employers Suffolk County Council.
Cable was sentenced to four years prison in 2003 on 18 charges of gross indecency and indecent assault against six band members.
Andrew Grove of solicitors Andrew Grove & Co said publicity had resulted in other victims coming forward. The settlement was agreed on Tuesday after six hours negotiations between his company, its barristers and the county’s solicitors and QC.
He said of his clients: “They’re all extremely relieved that the claim is over. We’ve been running this since February 2012.
“We’ve done it with letters-before-action: details of abuse, medical records, psychiatric reports.”
Mr Grove said there was one payment of about £42,500, three of £25,000, one of £8,500 and two of £5,000.
