AN RAF sergeant from Honington who repeatedly raped a schoolgirl has been jailed for 12 years.
Alan Harrison, 43, abused the girl, sometimes raping her three times a week, Ipswich Crown Court heard last Thursday.
His victim initially reported his abuse at the age of 13 but then retracted it because of the pressure she was under.
Judge David Goodin said: “You committed offences of unforgivable gravity in abusing her repeatedly, sustainably and systematically.”
Harrison pleaded guilty to nine offences of rape, one of assault by penetration and one of making indecent images of a child.
Prosecuting, Christopher Paxton said the charges related to numerous incidents, the victim sometimes being raped three times a week.
Harrison gave the girl gifts of underwear, paid for credit on her phone and provided her with alcohol.
“He bombarded her with calls and texts which was a demonstration of how much he was obsessed with her and was determined to control her,” said Mr Paxton.
Harrison had taken photos and videos of himself having sex with the the girl, the court heard.
Mr Paxton said that when the girl went to police a second time, she said: “I have come to the police this time to be happy, to live my life again and to be the person I want to be,”
Charles Myatt, in mitigation, said that Harrison had an exemplary service record.
“He wishes to make amends in whatever way he is able for the crimes he has committed.
“He realises there is almost nothing he can do in this regard,” said Mr Myatt.
Harrison will remain indefinitely on the Sexual Offences Register and is banned from unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16.
