FIRE crews were called to a second chemical spill in just four days at a paint factory in Stowmarket yesterday.
Firefighters were called to the scene at PPG Industries UK Ltd around 2.15pm and were assisted by police officers in setting up a corden.
A road closure was put in place along Needham Road and police went door to door urging residents in the immediate area to stay indoors with their windows closed.
A spokeswoman for the Suffolk fire and rescue service said that 500 to 1,000 litres of a liquid chemical had been leaked.
The road was reopened at around 7pm last night.
The incident follows a chemical spill at the paint factory on Thursday when thousands of litres of potentially flammable liquid escaped from a rector vessel.
A total of 45 firefighters and eight appliances attended Thursday’s incident, they used a blanket of foam half the size of a football pitch to contain the leak.
