A girl from Great Barton is preparing to take to the same stage she saw The Wanted perform on last year.

Beyton Middle School pupil Bethany Gilbert, 12, is ‘over the moon’ about being chosen to sing a solo at London’s O2 Arena next month.

The show, in which she will sing ELO’s Mr Blue Sky, is a 20th anniversary celebration for drama school Theatretrain, which Bethany has attended on Saturday mornings since she was seven years old.

Her proud mum Lisa said: “To win, she went up against every child in the country that attends Theatretrain. We’re very proud of her.”

She added: “She’s over the moon and we’re very emotional because she won’t sing for us at home but she can get up and do this in front of all those strangers.”

The former Great Barton Primary School student is no stranger to the stage, having returned just last week from performing in the Videopolis Theatre at Disneyland Paris.

She has also performed at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, the Royal Albert Hall and Sadler’s Wells, in London, the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and twice at the London Palladium,

She even auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent last year.
