A SCHOOL has played its part in helping Japan’s recovery after raising more than £650 for charity.
St Mary’s Primary School, in Mildenhall, put on a special Japan day to raise money for the disaster-hit country.
Pupils and teachers rallied round to stage the event as staff member Naomi Spells has family and friends in Japan.
Each year group chose a Japanese-inspired activity, from origami to Japenese writing on balloons.
Wendy Garrard, headteacher, said: “It was a very successful day. Parents and children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learnt a little bit about Japan.
“Naomi is incredibly delighted with the efforts and is very grateful of the school’s support.”
Japan was devastated by a huge 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami which struck the country on March 11. The disaster has already claimed more than 12,000 lives with many more people still missing.
