When the staff at Dennys heard there would be no Santa’s grotto in the heart of Bury St Edmunds they decided to act.
Aware of Father Christmas’ plight after Debenhams decided nationally to take a break from having grottoes, the staff in the arts, crafts and stationery store in King’s Road, set to work on building a winter wonderland in their former printing shop.
Manager Daryn Reffell said: “We need a Father Christmas in the town centre. We thought that is Debenham’s were not going to do it, nobody else was going to do it, so we did.
“The kids of Bury need something, don’t they.”
Santa will be moving in on December 6 from 4.30pm until 7pm and then will appear daily until December 23 when he has to go home to get the presents ready for delivery.
He will then be in the shop between 2.30pm and 5pm every weekday except Thursdays when he will be there from 4.30pm to 7pm for the late night shopping crowd. On Saturdays he will be at Dennys from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. On Sundays he will receive visitors from noon until 3pm.
