Sam Reed bags brace in home win for Bury Town

Sam Reed ended a 17-match goal drought to fire Bury Town to a 3-1 victory over Thurrock with a brace of free-kicks in their Ryman Premier encounter.

Craig Parker opened the scoring in the 10th minute, only for Lewis Spence to make it 1-1 six minutes later.

However, Reed showed his confidence had not deserted him as he stepped up to take two free-kicks, netting one in each half beyond former Blues goalkeeper Will Viner.

Meanwhile, Needham Market threw away a two-goal lead at Heybridge Swifts in Ryman One North and were forced to settle for a point.

Jemel Fox and Tom Dew had fired Needham into the lead before the Swifts recovered in the closing stages to snatch a draw.

However, there were more pressing concerns for the Marketmen as youngsters Ryan Charles and Sam Thrower ended the night in hospital, with a suspected broken leg and head injury respectively.
