Norfolk County Council has appointed a new safeguarding guru to oversee its failing child protection service.
Simon Hart, a former director for social services in northeast England and London, has been installed as independent chairman of the Improvement Board.
The council moved to bring in Mr Hart after its safeguarding performance was branded ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted inspectors.
Mr Hart said he was pleased to land the role.
“Ensuring the safety of children, young people and their families is probably the most important and complex of all responsibilities of local authorities,” he said.
Mr Hart will lead a board which features several county council cabinet members, who are yet to be chosen.
The Department for Education and health groups will also be on the board.
