Motorists have been left scratching their heads after a white road sign appeared saying SLOM - instead of SLOW.
The four-foot high word - which is Croatian for ‘breakdown’ - is on a slip road next to an industrial estate in Risby.
It is not clear who has painted it as Suffolk County Council and the Highways Agency deny they are responsible.
Local parish councillor Julian Read said: “It is very unfortunate that a mistake has been made.
“As a parish council we spend a lot of time pushing for road surface improvements, and now they might have to go back and spend time to correct this mistake.”
Other mistakes by road workers include a ‘SUS STOP’ sign in East London and a warning to ‘KEEP-CELAR’ in Kettering.
