Retailer nominated for prestigious award

A BURY St Edmunds clothes shop has been nominated for the Womenswear Retailer of the Year gong at this year’s Drapers Fashion Awards.

Javelin, with its flagship store in Abbeygate Street,Bury, will find out whether it has won the prestigious award on November 21 at the Drapers Fashion Awards ceremony in London.

Javelin opened its doors to the public for the first time in 1989 having started as a sports retailer, Clayton Sports, in 1953.

Opened by Olympic Javelin champion Fatima Whitbread, the store sells a selection of brands across womenswear, menswear, footwear, accessories, jewellery and gifts.

For the first time ever, the Drapers Fashion Award nominees were announced via Twitter to reach out to more people.

Managing director of Javelin Jeremy Clayton said: “This is fantastic news for all of us at Javelin and we feel privileged to be nominated for such a prestigious award.

“This is a special year for Drapers and we are delighted to be alongside such esteemed company as we help the, celebrate their 125th anniversary.”
